The First Task You Should Hand Off

February 23, 2025

Deletate

I get it—delegation feels hard at first. You might be thinking, It’s faster if I just do it myself, or No one will do it quite like I do. But the sooner you start delegating, the sooner you’ll experience the kind of freedom that changes everything.

Here’s the thing: you’re not supposed to do it all. And trying to juggle everything yourself is the fastest way to burnout. Your time is better spent on high-impact tasks—whether that’s growing your business, deepening client relationships, or finally getting a moment to breathe.

Not sure where to start? Choose one task that’s time-consuming but doesn’t require your personal expertise.

Some great first tasks to delegate:

  • Inbox management – Let someone filter, flag, and respond to routine emails.
  • Calendar coordination – No more back-and-forth scheduling—an assistant can handle it.
  • Social media scheduling – You create the content; they handle the posting and engagement.
  • Client follow-ups – Keep relationships strong without spending hours in your inbox.
  • Research – Whether it’s market trends or travel plans, someone else can gather the info for you.

The Delegation Starter Guide: 3 Steps to Offload Tasks with Confidence

  1. List Your Time-Drainers – Track your daily tasks for a week. Highlight anything repetitive, time-consuming, or outside your expertise.
  2. Choose One Small Task – Pick something that doesn’t require your personal touch, and start there.
  3. Set Clear Expectations – Provide clear instructions, deadlines, and examples to set your assistant (or team) up for success.

Delegation isn’t about giving up control—it’s about creating space to focus on what truly matters.

If you could hand off just one task this week, what would it be? Share in the comments—I’d love to help you figure it out.
